""Slowing drivers down around schools reduces the risk of tragedy and keeps students and their families safer.""
""We urge the province to work collaboratively with the people who know their communities well local municipalities, local school boards, local law enforcement and local public health,""
Ontario's four publicly funded school board associations are jointly urging the provincial government not to eliminate speed cameras. The associations emphasize that slowing drivers in school safety zones reduces the risk of tragedy and keeps students and families safer. The premier plans legislation to prohibit speed cameras, calling them a "cash grab" and criticizing camera locations and the threshold for issuing tickets. The school boards request refinement of the program and collaborative decision-making with municipalities, local school boards, law enforcement and public health. More than 20 mayors and police and health organizations back automated enforcement tools.
