Matthew Costain, 39, the suspect in the New Year's Eve double homicide in Halifax, was wanted by Toronto police for firearm offenses linked to a 2019 nightclub shooting.
The Toronto Police Service confirmed that Costain was wanted for several firearm offenses stemming from the August 2019 shooting at a packed nightclub that left five victims injured.
Court records indicate Costain had a lengthy criminal history prior to the nightclub shooting, including being found guilty of three counts of firearm possession and having been labeled a repeat offender.
While Costain does not have a criminal record in Nova Scotia, records show he had violent incidents while incarcerated in Ontario, including assaults on inmates.
