Soli Pestonji noticed something was wrong when his wife, Shahnaz, did not return home after grocery shopping. Shahnaz, 71, was stabbed in a North York parking lot. Soli and Shahnaz recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. Soli described her as the love of his life and the kindest person he knew. Their daughters Yasmin and Dina aim to remember their mother for the love and kindness she shared rather than focusing on the tragedy of her death. Yasmin is currently pregnant, adding to the family's emotional loss.
"I've had a long life and I've met a lot of people but I never knew anybody like her," Pestonji said. Shahnaz, 71, was fatally stabbed in a North York parking lot on Thursday in what police say was an unprovoked attack.
"There's no rhyme or reason. And if we spend time thinking 'Why did this happen?' we're going to drive ourselves mad," Yasmin said, emphasizing the importance of remembering her mother positively.
"She was the love of my life. She was the most wonderful person I've ever met," Pestonji said, expressing profound grief for the loss of his wife after 47 years of marriage.
"How could this happen to my mom? She's literally the kindest person," Yasmin said, reflecting the family's devastation and the impact Shahnaz had on their lives.
