Thailand's Board of Investment approved Western Digital's ฿23 billion expansion, driven by the demand for hard disk drives due to hyperscale clouds and generative AI.
The expansion is estimated to create 10,000 new jobs, adding to the existing 28,000 provided by Western Digital's facilities, thus boosting the local tech supply chain.
The local tech supply chain will benefit from Western Digital's plans as it will generate work for companies manufacturing inputs like plastics, metals, and power supplies.
Thailand now accounts for 80 percent of the world’s hard disks, highlighting the strategic significance of Western Digital and Seagate’s manufacturing presence in the country.
