Rebecca Gayheart thanked the community for its outpouring of support after Eric Dane's death from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis on February 19. Friends and castmates, including Shonda Rhimes and Sydney Sweeney, publicly shared condolences. A GoFundMe for the family was established but is currently on hold. Gayheart and Dane married in 2004 and had two daughters, Billie (2010) and Georgia (2011). Gayheart withdrew a 2018 divorce filing after Dane's ALS diagnosis to demonstrate commitment to their children. Both partners spoke candidly about a complicated family dynamic and efforts to model maturity and support for their daughters.
