HBO Can't Stop Renaming Things
"If there's one thing we can count on in the streaming era, it's that Warner Bros. Discovery will rename and rename and un-rename its various streaming and cable properties over and over again. The latest example: Six of the secondary HBO and erstwhile Cinemax channels such as "HBO2" and "ActionMAX" are getting a brand makeover. Here's the full list of changes announced today:"
"Viewers should see the changes reflected immediately, assuming you were even aware of these channels in the age of cord-cutting and on-demand viewing. (Before today, I had no clue what 5StarMAX was, personally, so in that sense the rebrand has already worked on at least one customer.) These are the stations you likely get access to for free if you subscribed to the primary HBO channel via a cable provider or to HBO Max, where they live in a little livestreaming-options bar in the app."
Warner Bros. Discovery is renaming six secondary HBO and former Cinemax channels: HBO2 to HBO Hits; HBO Signature to HBO Drama; HBO Zone to HBO Movies; MoreMAX to Cinemax Hits; and ActionMAX to Cinemax Action. The new names should appear immediately on cable lineups and within HBO Max's livestreaming options for subscribers who receive ancillary channels. Many viewers may not notice the changes because of cord-cutting and on-demand viewing habits. Ancillary cable brands are routinely reshuffled every five to seven years, and similar reorganizations have occurred at other networks. The rebrand accompanies a corporate split and follows recent channel shutdowns as leadership retreats from parts of the cable business.
