Eric Dane died aged 53 on 19 February after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His wife Rebecca Gayheart and their two daughters said he passed on Thursday afternoon and spent his last days surrounded by loved ones. The family said he will be deeply missed and that he adored his fans, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Dane's screen career began with a 1991 appearance on Saved by the Bell and spanned more than two decades. He was best known as Dr Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy and for portraying Cal Jacobs on HBO's Euphoria, a character revealed to lead a secret sexual life and exposed in the show's second season; Dane had filmed scenes for Euphoria season three.
