John Mellencamp served as the episode's guest and playfully ribbed Maher. Maher reflected on aging after his 70th birthday and reacted to an old photo by asking, "Who are these two old fucks?" Mellencamp outlined a greatest-hits tour with roughly 46 potential hits and concerts running about two and a half hours. Mellencamp recalled an early version of "Jack & Diane" in which "Jack was Black," and admitted, "I don't know what half the songs I've written are about." A musical featuring his songs is slated to debut in Maine later this year.
