Many customers have turned to social media, reporting issues that include being stuck in SOS mode or experiencing complete service loss. This has triggered a spike in complaints on platforms like Downdetector, where user reports surged and then fluctuated.
AT&T has alerted its users that the problems stem from a failure at a switching center, causing widespread service delays and impacting the ability to provision new SIM cards, especially in Apple devices.
According to AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberley, the company is actively investigating the service disruptions. This comes on the heels of a recent FCC settlement over an unrelated outage and labor negotiations.
The recent frustrations for AT&T customers arise amid additional issues, including the fallout from a previous 911 outage settlement and ongoing labor negotiations that may be affecting service provision.
