George Kurtz, CEO of Crowdstrike, traced the IT outage to a defect in a single content update for the security software provided for Microsoft Windows. Microsoft acknowledged it was caused by a third-party platform update.
Professor Alan Woodward highlighted that while Microsoft experienced slight issues with Azure, the main problem was an update to Crowdstrike's Falcon product, used widely for computer threat detection by major organizations worldwide.
