Redwood Materials announced that it has "topped out" their cathode active material (CAM) facility near Sparks, Nevada, which will produce 20 GWh of CAM annually, with plans to increase to 100 GWh.
The facility will provide essential support for the circular EV battery supply chain, where metals from used EV batteries are recycled back into new battery materials, achieving a recovery of roughly 95%.
This move is crucial for U.S. automakers as they reduce reliance on international material supplies, particularly from China, and aim to strengthen the domestic battery supply chain.
Redwood was recognized in Time Magazine's 2024 list of the 100 most influential companies due to their progress with the CAM facility, alongside receiving a $2 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy.
