The Project Gigabit programme aims to accelerate the UK's economic recovery post-Covid by improving broadband access in rural areas, helping grow tech and creative industries.
The Labour administration has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving full gigabit coverage by 2030, ensuring rural areas are not left behind in digital infrastructure.
Investment in Project Gigabit contracts has already reached £1.3bn, allowing nearly 82% of UK properties to access gigabit broadband, a significant increase from just 7%.
Under the new phase of the programme, over 4,500 homes and businesses in North and West Yorkshire will gain access to the fastest broadband available.
