In response to Meta's decision to shut down its Workplace platform, Microsoft is enhancing Teams by integrating a Facebook-like feed named Storyline. This new feature allows users to post updates, share news, and celebrate colleague achievements, similar to social media interactions. Built on the Viva Engage platform, Storyline will be accessible through a new button in Teams, encouraging workplace communication. Users can follow colleagues and engage with posts while IT admins manage post creation permissions. Additionally, Microsoft plans to introduce paid features for more analytics functionalities within the Teams environment.
Meta is shutting down its Workplace platform next year, but Microsoft is planning to keep the dream of Facebook at work very much alive.
Microsoft is pitching this as a way for colleagues to share announcements, news, or progress on a project.
The main button in Microsoft Teams that you use to send a new DM or create a new channel will soon include an option to create a new Storyline post.
Sources tell me Microsoft is also working on paid features for Storyline, including the ability to see profile analytics.
