Microsoft opens testing for Windows AI search
Briefly

Microsoft is testing an AI-powered Windows search feature, allowing intuitive, casual language searches for local files using semantic indexing technology. It’s available for Windows 11 Insider testers.
The AI search is integrated seamlessly across various search boxes within Windows 11, including Settings and File Explorer, and does not require an internet connection due to local NPU processing.
Currently, the AI search supports specific file formats such as JPEG, PNG, PDF, TXT, and XLS, with plans to eventually include cloud data from OneDrive.
The feature is rolling out gradually to Windows Insiders on specific Copilot Plus PCs, with broader support for other processors and expanded language options forthcoming.
