Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, criticized US export controls on chips affecting his company's market share in China, which has plummeted from 95% to 50% in four years. He remarked that these restrictions have inadvertently fueled the growth of Chinese technology companies, providing them with the motivation and governmental support to advance rapidly. Huang expressed concern over the effectiveness of these controls, emphasizing the importance of China in the global AI landscape, where a significant proportion of AI researchers operate.
The export control gave them the spirit, the energy, and the government support to accelerate their development. So I think, all in all, the export control is a failure.
China is where 50% of the world's AI researchers are, and we want AI researchers to build on Nvidia. DeepSeek was built on Nvidia. That's a gift to us, that's a gift to the world.
