Indonesia's antitrust body KPPU fined Google 202.5 billion Rupiahs ($12.6 million) for mandating the use of its billing system for app developers. The agency enforced that Google must discontinue this practice and allow alternatives, stating that the current requirement limits user choice and undermines transactions and revenue for developers. This ruling follows an investigation initiated in 2022, highlighting Google's substantial market control in Indonesia, where it holds a 95.16% share in the search market. Google intends to appeal the decision.
We strongly disagree with the KPPU's decision and will appeal. Our current practices foster a healthy, competitive Indonesian app ecosystem, offering a secure platform, global reach, and choice.
