U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta: 'The court reaches the following conclusion: Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly.'
'Google had paid $26.3 billion US in 2021 alone to ensure that its search engine is the default on smartphones and browsers,' noted Mehta.
'Even if a new entrant were positioned to bid for the default, it could only compete by paying billions to partners,' wrote Mehta.
'Losing defaults would dramatically impact Google's bottom line, with projections of significant revenue drops,' as highlighted by Mehta.
