Google has initiated the local production of Pixel 8 devices in India, aligning with its strategy to enhance its presence in the Indian smartphone market, known as the world's second-largest after China.
The manufacturing currently excludes Pixel 8 Pro and 8a models, and Google's global partner Compal has teamed up with Dixon Technologies to commence local assembly.
The Indian government's push for local manufacturing has led to significant growth in the production of mobile phones and exports, with a substantial rise in locally made devices meeting the domestic demand.
India has witnessed an exceptional 8,138% surge in local mobile phone production value from $2.25 billion in 2014-15 to $50 billion in the financial year 2023-24.
