Recently, over 1,400 Google employees urged the company to provide more job security by implementing buyouts rather than conducting mass layoffs. In response, Google initiated a voluntary exit program for the Platforms and Devices team, allowing employees to leave voluntarily in exchange for an undisclosed severance package. Rick Osterloh, a senior vice president at Google, stated that this program could benefit those dissatisfied with their roles or the team's objectives. The buyout options currently apply only to U.S. employees within the Platforms and Devices division.
The Platforms & Devices team is offering a voluntary exit program that provides US-based Googlers working on this team the ability to voluntarily leave the company with a severance package.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the move was meant to 'speed up decision-making', 'bring the best innovations to partners faster', and 'help us deliver higher quality products.'
Now, Google appears to be taking them up on their advice, beginning with a buyout.
Google confirmed that the voluntary exit program was happening to 9to5Google.
