Ben Christensen and his team created Cambium to combat the issue of wasted wood from tree removals, which often ends up getting shredded rather than reused. Their startup focuses on streamlining the wood supply chain using software, improving the coordination between tree care services and wood buyers. By developing their own products, including furniture grade lumber and engineered wood, Cambium not only aims to fill a market gap but also contributes positively to the environment by reducing carbon emissions associated with new lumber production.
Every time you make a product with salvaged wood, you’ve avoided producing carbon emissions that come with growing, harvesting, and processing new wood. By reusing what’s already there, Cambium helps to tackle the significant environmental impact of deforestation.
If you’re a tree care service, you’re incentivized to get to your next booking. So, if you have to drive out of your way to drop off logs somewhere that would reuse them, it’s not going to work. That's something Cambium aims to solve.
