BMW has issued a recall for 12,535 of its Mini Cooper SE electric vehicles due to a serious issue with the high-voltage battery that could potentially lead to fires.
The company recommends owners visit a Mini dealership for a complimentary software update which is expected to address the battery malfunction issue effectively.
NHTSA indicated that the issue was serious enough to warrant attention, noting that "A short circuit increases the risk of a fire," demonstrating the urgency of the recall.
BMW stated that they will discharge the battery to below a 30% charge level if a malfunction is detected, highlighting the proactive measures they are implementing.
