Amazon will cut about 14,000 corporate jobs while increasing investment in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. CEO Andy Jassy anticipated generative AI would reduce the corporate workforce in the next few years and reported more than 1,000 generative AI services and applications in progress, calling that a small fraction of planned work. Amazon committed roughly $10 billion apiece to multiple data-center projects and a $10 billion campus in North Carolina to expand AWS and AI capacity. The company is reducing bureaucracy, shifting resources to AI priorities, and competing with OpenAI, Google and Microsoft to grow AWS.
