Google's offer was 'just not significant' and essentially an acqui-hire, according to Ohanian. Google wanted to combine Reddit with YouTube to have Reddit power YouTube comments.

Though Reddit rejected Google's acquisition offer in 2005, the companies now have a strong relationship as Reddit signed a $60 million deal with Google in February, allowing Google to train its AI on Reddit content.
