Unity, A Major Game Engine Behind Countless Games, Abandons Its Controversial Runtime Fee
Briefly

Unity's decision to scrap the controversial Runtime Fee and revert to a subscription model is aimed at restoring developer trust and ensuring predictable pricing.
Unity CEO Matthew Bromberg stated, 'I've heard time and time again that you want a strong Unity, and understand that price increases are a necessary part of what enables us to invest in moving gaming forward.'
Starting January 1, 2025, Unity Pro will have an 8% price increase to $2,200 annually, while Unity Enterprise will increase by 25%, affecting all subscriptions.
Bromberg emphasized that canceling the Runtime Fee for games and the new pricing model will enable continued investment in improving game development for everyone.
