After completing my PhD, I joined BrainStorm Therapeutics, a biotech start-up in San Diego, driven by their mission to reduce high clinical trial failure rates for neurological diseases. My expertise aligned perfectly with their focus on using brain organoids for drug discovery. Unlike conventional mouse models, organoids present a more human-relevant system. My path to this role highlights how serendipity can influence career opportunities, particularly in the dynamic start-up environment I sought after during my graduate studies.
Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
Brain organoids present an all-in-human system to evaluate therapeutics using clinically relevant screening endpoints.
The mission to overcome the more-than-90% failure rate of clinical trials involving neurological diseases appealed to me.
I'd become increasingly drawn to the fast-paced start-up world.
