Last year, Reddit faced protests against its API changes, leading many subreddits to turn private or NSFW. In response, the platform has now implemented new rules for moderators.
The new rules will require moderators to request approval for changing a community's public or private status, effective immediately, largely impacting larger subreddit communities.
Reddit has ensured support for handling change requests around the clock, stating that requests for communities under 30 days or with fewer than 5,000 members will be instantly approved.
Reddit clarified that while moderators can impose temporary restrictions without approval, any permanent changes will need to go through the new request process to prevent platform disruptions.
