'It's not science fiction': The moonshot effort to supersize solar and wind | CBC News
Briefly

To meet the increasing demand for electricity, innovative approaches are emerging, such as the development of a jumbo aircraft designed specifically for transporting larger wind turbine blades. Colorado-based startup Radia has been working on the WindRunner aircraft, which could carry turbine blades up to 50% longer than current models. Additionally, ambitious plans for solar arrays in space are under consideration to beam energy back to Earth. These projects are seen as potential solutions that could significantly boost renewable energy production.
In the aircraft, there's no new technology. We've designed the aircraft around the things that are already flying, said founder Mark Lundstrom.
'With the bigger turbines, they operate at a much lower wind speed. And so that enables you to double or triple the acreage in the world where these turbines can be located.'
