I'm a fintech cofounder. Job interviews are like a first date, and 6.5 minutes is the perfect length.
"When I was running sales teams, I conducted 30 to 40 interviews a day. She taught me to look for some very basic things, like: Did they make eye contact? Did they shake my hand? Can they answer a question? Do they know the basics?"
"When I interview candidates, we've already screened their résumé, looked at their LinkedIn, and conducted a screening call. So, when people come in to meet with me, I'm not looking for their ability. I'm looking for their desire and to see if they're going to be a good cultural fit. Do we vibe? Do you understand what I'm asking you? Can you keep up? We scheduled the interview for 15 minutes. I'm usually done in well under 10 minutes, so it's about six minutes."
Garima Shah has over 20 years in Fintech and began in outside sales, handling high turnover, commission-only roles and early management responsibilities at age 19. She conducted 30–40 interviews daily while running sales teams and learned to evaluate basics like eye contact, handshake, and answering questions. At Biller Genie she now conducts 15–20 interviews weekly and pre-screens candidates via résumé, LinkedIn, and a screening call. In final interviews she focuses on desire and cultural fit rather than ability, using three rapid questions in a scheduled 15-minute slot and typically concludes in about six minutes.
