Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is actively suppressing a memoir by former employee Sarah Wynn-Williams that contains serious allegations about the company's toxic work culture and practices. An arbitration case ruled in favor of Meta, placing a temporary ban on the promotion of the memoir, "Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism." Wynn-Williams cites personal experiences of harassment and other issues within the company. Despite the ruling, her publisher Flatiron Books plans to continue promoting the book, contesting Meta's actions as a suppression tactic.
The memoir, "Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism," released this week, rips into Meta's toxic work culture and provides a behind-the-scenes look at how the company handled some of its worst scandals.
We are appalled by Meta's tactics to silence our author through the use of a nondisparagement clause in a severance agreement," a Flatiron spokesperson told the NYT.
