Recent findings from the Harris Poll indicate a shift in consumer behavior away from brands that exhibit political affiliations. High-profile companies like Target, Disney, and Google have altered their DEI policies to align with political pressures. Poll results show that a significant portion of Democrats are inclined to boycott companies reflecting opposing views, with 45% of them willing to stop shopping at certain brands. This trend of consumers checking out rather than engaging reflects broader concerns about shifting political landscapes impacting spending habits across demographics.
"Consumers are just fatigued by all this shifting politics in their brands," said Harris Poll CEO John Gerzema, indicating a growing trend of disengagement.
"Instead of maybe standing in the checkout line, they're just sort of checking out," Gerzema explained, pointing to consumers opting out of brands amid political fatigue.
According to the Harris Poll, around four out of 10 Americans have changed spending habits recently, aligning them with their moral views.
The poll revealed Democrats are more likely than Republicans to stop shopping at companies with opposing political views, with 45% of Democrats vs. 34% of Republicans.
