"Standing up for the values of justice, equity, and our shared humanity has never been more important, and yet, Ben & Jerry's has been silenced, sidelined, for fear of upsetting those in power,"
Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's, saying he left with a broken heart. He said the company stood up and spoke out in support of peace, justice and human rights in relation to real events. Greenfield asserted that Unilever had promised to maintain that social mission but had removed the brand's independence, which he described as the very basis of the 2000 sale. He said Ben & Jerry's has been silenced and sidelined for fear of upsetting those in power. The resignation follows years of friction with Unilever over social and political issues and comes ahead of a planned stock market float of parent company The Magnum Ice Cream Company. Co‑founders previously urged Black voter participation and created a flavor tied to Kamala Harris.
