The USPS revealed a stamp honoring the late civil rights leader Constance Baker Motley during a ceremony in Jamaica attended by over 200 people. The event included jazz performances and a VFW colorguard presentation. Darwin Peralta, postmaster, emphasized the importance of the Black Heritage Forever Stamps in recognizing African-American contributions to society. Baker Motley was a trailblazer, known for being the first African-American woman to argue before the Supreme Court and for her vital role in the Brown vs. Board of Education case. She also broke barriers in the judiciary and state senate.
Darwin Peralta, postmaster for Jamaica, NY, explained that the Black Heritage stamps allow for an annual celebration of African-Americans who made significant contributions to their communities and the greater public.

Baker Motley lived a remarkable life of many firsts. As an attorney, she was the first African American woman to appear before the Supreme Court.
