Krish Kandiah extended an olive branch to Robert Jenrick following accusations of xenophobia. Kandiah suggested that concern over illegal migration does not equate to racism, aiming for collaboration to mitigate national fears and anger. He emphasized the significance of focusing on actual issues such as housing, employment, and the cost of living. Kandiah previously cooperated with Jenrick on initiatives benefiting refugees from Hong Kong and has emphasized the irrationality of xenophobia, which creates unnecessary fear around immigration.
Kandiah said: "These words echo a fear many have absorbed—fear of the stranger. The technical name for this is xenophobia. All phobias are, by definition, irrational. Nevertheless, they have a huge impact."
Kandiah emphasized, "I believe we need to focus on the real challenges that are making people worried—housing, jobs, and the cost of living—rather than ramping up anti-immigrant sentiment."
