Semi-automated VAR offside to debut in FA Cup
Briefly

The FA Cup's fifth round will feature the first live use of the Premier League's semi-automated VAR offside technology (SAOT), aimed at reducing offside check times by 31 seconds. After a year of unanimous club support and extensive testing, implementation was initially delayed but is now confirmed for March 1st. SAOT will be operational in all Premier League stadiums, while the Preston North End vs. Burnley match will revert to older VAR technology. This transition signifies a major step in English football towards faster, clearer officiating.
...the technology has not yet been introduced, but Tony Scholes, the Premier League's chief football officer, said 'significant progress' had been made.
'Video Assistant Referees [VAR] will be active across all eight ties in the Fifth Round of this season's Emirates FA Cup,' a joint statement issued by the Premier League, The FA and PGMOL said.
The new Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) aims to reduce the time taken for an offside check by an average of 31 seconds.
The FA Cup Fifth Round will also utilise Semi-Automated Offside Technology in all seven matches taking place in Premier League stadiums.
