Idrissa Gueye received a red card after a confrontation with teammate Michael Keane following sloppy Everton defending that produced a Manchester United chance. The contact between Gueye and Keane looked brief and not clearly aggressive, raising questions about whether a red card was justified. Jordan Pickford intervened to separate the pair. Everton played the remainder of the match with ten men but still managed to take the lead when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall produced a solo effort to make it 1-0 at Old Trafford.
