Tensions often boil over on a football pitch, but it's generally seen as the done thing for players to train their sights on the opposition. That's why you had to pinch yourself when Everton team-mates Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane squared up to each other in the 13th minute of their side's 1-0 win at Manchester United on Monday night.
The pair squared up after Gueye's poor pass inside the box gifted a chance to United skipper Bruno Fernandes, who fired narrowly wide. Gueye was irate and raised his left hand to slap Keane, with referee Tony Harrington immediately producing a red card, which was confirmed by VAR Paul Howard. The Premier League Match Centre said: "The referee's call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR - with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane."
Celtic attacker Daizen Maeda has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months. He was heavily linked with an exit during the summer transfer window, but Celtic managed to keep him at the club. It appears that the player is unhappy with his situation, and he is seeking a move in January. Celtic could consider selling the player in the middle of the season.
It's that mentality of win or learn. You win, but if you don't, you analyse why. Where you start is not where you are collectively at the end of the season. Dubravka gifts West Ham win Soucek, scorer of the third goal against Newcastle last week, completed the turnaround, converting after Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka palmed Lucas Paqueta's curling effort straight into his path. And there was another moment to forget for Dubravka three minutes from the end of normal time. Soucek was to the fore again, driving into space and fizzing a low effort that Dubravka palmed straight to Kyle Walker-Peters, who scored with only his second touch of the game.
Now, with Kolo Muani fit, the former Everton striker has had to make do with a place on the bench and failed to impress against FC Copenhagen in midweek, missing a penalty that another striker, Dane Scarlett, won. Competition is fierce, even for a Spurs side that registered 0.1 xG in the defeat to Chelsea the lowest by any Premier League team this season and speculation has already begun before the January transfer window.
Everton prepare to face Tottenham at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday undefeated at their new home following three wins and two draws this season. Their home form follows a summer of largely successful recruitment, although a question mark still remains at centre-forward, which has been a problem position since the departure of Romelu Lukaku in 2017. The Toffees have signed 17 strikers over the past 10 years at a combined cost of almost 160m... with decidedly mixed results.
According to football insider, Everton have a concrete' interest in the 29-year-old English forward and they are hoping to sign him in the coming months. They are looking to find a quality replacement for Beto, who has not been at his best. Ivan Toney wanted by Everton David Moyes feels that Toney would be a quality addition, and he could be the ideal fit for their style of football.
