The 51-year-old former Derby County, Birmingham City and Leicester City defender was sacked as head coach of Championship side Oxford United just two days before Christmas. Gary Rowett was sacked as Oxford United head coach on Dec. 23, two days before Christmas, roughly a year after his appointment. Rowett, a 51-year-old former Derby County, Birmingham City and Leicester City defender, had helped keep Oxford in the Championship last season after arriving on Dec. 20, 2024. A run of one win in ten matches left Oxford in relegation places and prompted chairman Grant Ferguson and the board to dismiss him. Ferguson praised Rowett's leadership but cited a disappointing run of results as the reason. Numerous recent managerial changes have occurred across top clubs, and pressure mounts on other managers, including Thomas Frank at Tottenham.
