The tragic death of migrant worker Muhammad Arshad during the construction of the Aramco Stadium for the 2034 World Cup raises serious safety concerns. Arshad fell while working on an elevated platform and succumbed to his injuries after emergency services were called. His death marks the first known fatality associated with World Cup preparations, coming amid warnings from human rights groups about the treatment of migrant laborers. Following the incident, workers were reportedly instructed to erase footage and remain silent about it, prompting ongoing concerns over labor conditions and accountability.
While all three were equipped with personal fall-arrest systems, one worker was not connected to an anchor point at the time of the incident and fell, sustaining severe injuries.
Amnesty International warned of the exploitation and risks faced by migrant workers on World Cup construction sites, stating: 'Migrant workers will face exploitation and many will die.'
