The Football Association want Southgate to stay on as England manager past his current contract, whether or not his team win Sunday's European Championship final. FA chiefs view the Euro 2024 campaign as a success and want him to lead into the 2026 World Cup.
Many view Southgate as a very negative manager, believing England could have achieved more without his pragmatic nature. The scrutiny over England's style of play this summer has also affected them.
