Sam Kerr has returned to Chelsea's squad after a 20-month absence following an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in January 2024. Her most recent Chelsea appearance was on 20 December 2023 in a 3-1 Champions League win over Hacken. Chelsea won a domestic treble last season, securing the FA Cup, the League Cup and a sixth successive Women's Super League title. The team's 56 WSL goals last season were down from the competition-record 71 in 2022-23 and represented the lowest full-season tally since Kerr's 2020 arrival. Kerr has scored 58 WSL goals since moving to England. Manager Sonia Bompastor confirmed Kerr is in the squad for the season opener against Manchester City but urged patience as Kerr rebuilds fitness and match sharpness.
