Daniel Ballard, 25, has suffered an injury and will miss Northern Ireland's World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Germany. Ballard was forced off during the first half of Sunderland's 2-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor. Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris, speaking after the club's Carabao Cup loss to Huddersfield, said the concern was not "long-term" but that Ballard faces a spell on the sidelines. Le Bris said the injury is not too serious and expects Ballard to be out for two to three weeks. Northern Ireland face Luxembourg on 4 September and Germany in Cologne on 7 September. Michael O'Neill is already without goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who withdrew with a shoulder injury while playing for Sheffield Wednesday.
