4 Skiers Injured After Snowmobile Crashes Into Lift Line at Avoriaz Ski Resort, Frane - SnowBrains
""There was a huge noise and screams,""
""When I turned around, I saw the snowmobile, a skier stuck underneath and several people on the ground. To within one metre, I was cut in half.""
At Avoriaz Ski Resort in Haute-Savoie, a snowmobile lost control at about 11:00 a.m. at the bottom of the Lac Intrets chairlift and accelerated into a busy lift queue. SERMA, operator of Avoriaz's lift system, said a SERMA employee on a snowmobile lost control shortly after setting off and struck multiple people. Four people were injured, including a 22-year-old woman with serious injuries who was airlifted to Geneva Hospital; her life is not in danger. The other three victims, including the driver, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the Avoriaz medical centre. Ski patrollers, two medical helicopters, fire brigade vehicles, and medical staff responded and secured the scene; lifts were temporarily shut and normal operations later resumed. The driver tested negative for alcohol and narcotics and the snowmobile was impounded.
