Max Naumov is grieving the tragic loss of his parents, Olympic skaters Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova, who perished in a plane crash that claimed 28 lives. Reflecting on their kindness and support, Max recalls their final moments, including their pride in his recent performance at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Despite the immense loss, Max is determined to honor their memory and continue his skating journey with renewed motivation, feeling driven not just for himself but also for his parents' legacy as he looks towards future competitions like the 2026 Winter Olympics.
They were beautiful people. They were so incredibly kind. I learned of my parents' deaths just days after I placed fourth in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Their last words were that they loved me and were proud of me.
The only way out is through. There's no other way. There are no options but to keep going. I donât have the strength or the passion or the drive or the dedication of one person anymore. It's three people.
