French mountain resort offers free skiing - as long as there's snow
Briefly

Due to climate change impacts, the ski area of Bourg d'Oueil in France is offering free access until March 9th, 2024, for the first time ever. With only one ski lift operational and minimal snow coverage, the resort is highlighting significant changes in snowfall patterns. The Court of Auditors has recognized Bourg d'Oueil as particularly vulnerable to global warming, elevating concerns about the future viability of small ski resorts under changing climate conditions. This situation illustrates the immediate effects of climate change on recreational areas in winter.
Last year, a ski pass cost just €12 - and this year, for the first time ever, the small town has opened its ski area free of charge to anyone and everyone until March 9th, the end of final stage of the school holidays.
Thanks to climate change, less snow falls on the resort, and doesn't last as long when it does.
