The Mountain View City Council intends to propose a new measure that would limit annual rent increases for mobile home residents to either 3% or 60% of the consumer price index (CPI), whichever is lower. This move follows rising inflation complaints from residents who struggle with current rental costs. Park owners, however, argue that such restrictions could jeopardize their operational viability, noting their rising expenses due to inflation and the complexity of petitioning for higher rent increases. The city has seen a growing need for rent control, particularly for mobile homes, which make up a small portion of its housing stock.
For those who can barely afford the expenses now, the future is bleak in terms of being able to afford to stay here and darker still by their financial inability to move elsewhere, whether it be for medical conditions, age or other personal situations.
Park owners do not have a magic button that we can push that makes (our costs) smaller than the inflation rate.
