A new 100% affordable housing complex has been approved in East San Jose, set to replace two vacant structures with 400 homes. This six-story development, located at 2940 Alum Rock Ave., is part of an effort to address the city's substantial need for affordable housing. Designed for residents earning 80% of the area's median income, it features plans for enhanced traffic measures and a 24/7 electric car-sharing program. Local officials, including District 5 Councilmember Peter Ortiz, collaborated with developers The Pacific Companies, emphasizing the project's community integration and commitment to local concerns regarding congestion and parking.
We're working with the city on the (parking) spaces for a car share program, which I think is absolutely phenomenal. We really tried to do everything we can to fill up the massive need for more affordable housing, but also be very mindful of the community and our neighbors.
This project is one of the largest affordable housing developments in recent years, and it is expected to effectively cater to residents earning 80% of the average median income.
