Last September, an autonomous delivery robot from Starship Technologies tripped up an employee at Arizona State University, leading to injury and backlash over safety protocols.
The police report confirmed that the robot reversed and knocked the employee down before reversing again, resulting in reported injuries that were treated by local fire.
Starship spokesperson claims the incident took place at "extremely low speed", defending safety protocols amidst rising concerns regarding robot incidents on campuses.
Despite significant growth and millions of deliveries since its trials began in 2016, incidents like the ASU encounter raise questions about the operational safety of delivery robots.
