The European Space Agency (ESA) described the launch of Sentinel-2C aboard the last Vega rocket as a 'fitting' farewell for the vehicle, which has been instrumental in deploying small Earth observation satellites in Polar orbit.
Vega's 12 years of service included noteworthy achievements such as the 2020 mission that successfully deployed 53 satellites on a single flight, showcasing its capabilities within Europe's space efforts.
While Vega has enabled Europe to launch essential missions independently, its overall commercial performance was underwhelming, a challenge that also confronts its successor, Vega-C.
Despite its innovations, Vega did not find commercial success, which remains a concern for the upcoming Vega-C and Ariane 6 rocket, both facing operational challenges.
