NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore completed their first joint spacewalk after being at the International Space Station (ISS) for nearly eight months. Their intended short stay turned into an extended mission due to problems with Boeing's Starliner capsule, which led to its return home empty. The astronauts engaged in maintenance work outside the ISS, while scientists also monitored for any surviving microbes. With no immediate plan for their return, their mission is expected to continue until at least late March or early April, which stretches it to 10 months in total.
This marks the first time Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore performed a spacewalk together, almost eight months after they arrived at the ISS.
The two test pilots expected to stay at the station for just a week, but faced an extended mission due to delays with their ride home.
