NASA's ATLAS telescope discovered an interstellar comet named 3I/ATLAS. This comet is only the third object from beyond our solar system observed. It is believed to have traveled for millions to billions of years through space, with origins possibly from the constellation Sagittarius. The icy comet is expected to pass 150 million miles from Earth in October, posing no threat. Currently, it is near Jupiter, traveling at 37 miles per second, and features a glowing tail and gas cloud. This discovery marks a milestone in astronomy, following previous finds of Oumuamua and Borisov.
These things take millions of years to go from one stellar neighborhood to another, so this thing has likely been traveling through space for hundreds of millions of years, even billions of years.
A visitor from another solar system, even though it's natural - it's not artificial, don't get excited because some people do ... It's just very exciting.
